History of the Novecembalo Ensemble
Since its formation in 2004 Novecembalo has focused on mainly Italian Twentieth century compositions for harpsichord. We perform older work from the beginning of the century as well as work being written today.
Our musical development has benefited from contact with important contemporary musicians such as Enzo Porta, Dario Indrigo, Mariolina De Robertis,Annamaria Morini and Annelie de Man from Holland. And these contacts with prestigious musicians have also brought the group to notice world-wide, with the result that over 100 composers from around the world have written a total of more than 120 works for us .
Intensive research was featured in Il Clavicembalo nella Musica Contemporanea Italianapublished by the Associazione Clavicembalistica Bolognese in 2005. The book lists and describes over 700 compositions for harpsichord by about 300 composers.
We are currently recording a complete collection of contemporary Italian pieces for flute and harpsichord.
We give lectures and concerts on the modern harpsichord and repertoire at Conservatoires and Universities. We also take part in contemporary music concert seasons and festivals, which are popular with audiences and critics alike. Novecembalo has won various national and international awards including the Luigi Nono and the Camillo Togni prizes.
Novecembalo has recently recorded for Ars Publica, RAI Trade and Bongiovanni labels.
