Meeting Annelie de Man
We first met Annelie de Man at the Gaudeamus awards at the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ concert hall in Amsterdam. We had seen her online and recognized her immediately. We also met her husband and had a drink with the couple before watching the award ceremony.
The next day we visited the couple at their home and played Annelie some of our music. Her harpsichord is of course well known, but what is less well known is that her house is just as modern and the harpsichord matches its surroundings. There are large panels on the walls, musical scores and CDs, a large window on the sky and a computer, a window on the world. The house is modern and full of life. Annelie played her "Take your time" for us, and when we played her some of our work, her comments and advice were generous and helpful.
I have only ever met one other great musician able to transmit the same enthusiasm and talent: Leslie Howard. We are now on first name terms with Annelie and we are pleased to join her in presenting new music for harpsichord to a wider public.
